SAT / ACT and ESL Camps
Visit Stanford University
On Friday July 1st, our SAT / ACT Preparation Camp and our ESL Camp visited Stanford, touring the campus and discovering what it might be like to apply or attend.
Students from both camps prepared ahead of time. During this preparation time, ESL students learned relevant vocabulary and both groups learned about what it takes to get to college. They also looked at college majors, especially those at Stanford, and thought about what they might like to study in college. All of the students arrived at Stanford prepared with questions to ask admissions officers. This preparation paid off when an admissions officer made himself available to speak just for Fei Tian's summer camp students, and they were prepared to find out exactly what they needed to get into Stanford – or into many other competitive colleges!
Prior to their talk with the admissions officer, Fei Tian students also had the opportunity to take a tour of the campus, where the guide talked about different aspects of campus life and culture, Stanford history, academics, or any other subject guests brought up. They also had the opportunity to visit the bookstore and jump into the fountains, the later of which tradition dictates as perfectly acceptable, particularly on hot days such as that of the field trip. The fountains are even chlorinated to better conform both to health concerns and to Stanford student preferences and traditions.
Both the ACT / SAT camp and the ESL camp benefited, taking away valuable knowledge about how to be admitted to – and be successful at – a competitive college or university. Future academically-related camps can hope to have a similar experience, touring either Stanford or another nearby university. |
